It's a rough life

We have a new cat at our house - Rascal. As you can see it's a rough life being a cat at the Matzke's.

Rascal tries to catch a breeze by sleeeping in the window.

Monkey See

Saturday, July 21, 2007

Our pastor called this morning and asked if I might be able to make a birthday cake for his seven year old daughter. Sarah and I took the project on. We looked online and found this cute monkey cake. It was fun to give the cake to the pastor's wife this afternoon. We threw in some of the trick birthday candles, too.

It was fun to work on this project together and bless our pastor's family today.

Hot off the Press

Wednesday, July 4, 2007

Tuesday was a big day for us. The Bible page written in Pijin that I have been working on was published in the newspaper for the first time. It will come out in the paper every Tuesday.

Four thousand copies of the Solomon Star newspaper are published on Tuesdays so lots of people had opportunity to read the passage from Genesis, contemplate questions on the reading and a short devotional. We're eager to hear what people think about the new page in the paper.

Happy 4th of July

I'm back on line in the Solomons after my trip to the USA. Sorry I have been neglectful of the blog. Life has been crazy to say the least.

It's the night of July 4th here and our mission group just celebrated Independence Day. We were a mixed group of Americans and our Australian and national colleagues.

Our director, James, was in charge of entertainment for our gathering. The kids LOVE Uncle James who has a never ending supply of fun things to do.

We started out playing water balloon volleyball. Each team had a piece of fabric held between members that was used to launch and catch the water balloon volleyballs over the net. Of course some broke leaving players a bit damp.

And, not to be without fireworks on the fourth, we had a light show. James made a small basket out of chicken wire with a string attached to it. He filled the basket with steel wool, doused it with kerosene and lit it. He swung the basket around and around and produced some pretty impressive fireworks!

We hope you enjoy the 4th of July wherever you are.
